Collage #0422.1

In April of 2022, I felt a deep urge to create. I turned to a National Geographic magazine for inspiration. As I flipped through the pages, I was reminded of my personal experience with drug use and addiction, specifically with a family member who struggled with substance abuse. The image of an oil barrel doubling as a saringe pulled an emotion out of me, and I decided that this fragment would be the center of my piece.

I felt compelled to use this collage as a way to honor my loved one's journey through drug abuse, and to raise awareness about the dangers of the opoid crisis. This physical piece became a symbol of hope, reminding me of the importance of saying no to drugs and choosing a healthier path for ourselves and our communities. I hope to continue to use my art to support the recovery community and to advocate for drug-free lifestyles.
